The climate and ecological emergency is not some distant threat. It is here already.  The latest scientific assessment  on this threat was published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2018. It was clear that we  now have less than 10 years before  2030 by which time we must  reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 50% if we are to have a 50/50 chance of preventing the global average temperature going beyond the ‘safe’ limit of 1.5 degrees Centigrade above the pre-industrial average.  So Derbyshire Climate Coalition are calling on all voters across Derbyshire to contact   all the candidates standing for election on 6th May 2021  in their particular ward/division and ask them to sign up to this pledge;

If elected, I pledge to ensure that our council works with the community to rapidly implement a Climate Action Plan which strives to cut carbon emissions drastically by 2030, and that the climate and ecological emergency is a central consideration in all council actions.’

Nearly 40 organisations across Derbyshire have backed this call to our politicians to act now,  to sign this pledge and respond accordingly if elected.  You can see the current and growing list of organisations using this link;
